2021-04-20 · Pitcher plant Botanical name: Sarracenia purpurea subsp. venosa Common name: Pitcher plant Family: Sarraceniaceae Plant Type: Conservatory, House plant, Perennial

venosa is found primarily on the coastal plain from the New Jersey Pine Barrens south to Georgia and west from the Florida panhandle to Louisiana. These two varieties will readily cross and form hybrids where their ranges overlap, making identification difficult. Native to the Florida Panhandle and through North Carolina. It has ground-hugging rain-catchers, sporting conspicuous purple-red leaves with wide, heavily patterned hoods. It grows slower than other types of Sarracenia but will form an impressive clump over time. Plant remains relatively short when fully mature, 6-8 inches.
